A better week with 5 Salmon, 2 Grilse and a Sea trout landed. Regular Dee fisher Will Shropshire and party who were fishing on both banks for the first 3 days had a few fish but some were luckier than others with Richard Pembroke landing two 16lb ers from the Upper and Middle Ferroch for his 3 days. Andrew Janaway had a 10lb er and James Scougall had a 7lb er both from the Malt Steep, the successful flies were JJ's and Collie dogs. On Thursday Mike Carnegie had his first ever Salmon and it was landed in the Malt Steep on a large Red Francis tube. On Friday Mike Kimber had a lively Grilse in the Grey Mare on a small Silver Grey and we also had a 5lb er in the evening from the Malt Steep on a Sunray.
Well we will be into the last 5 days of the 2021 season as of tomorrow and the forecast is looking reasonable with a bit of light rain most days, cloud and the odd sunny spell with winds from a North Westerly to Westerly direction.
We have 3 rods available on Cairnton on Tuesday 12th October if anyone is fancying a last throw of the season and we have rods available on Middle Blackhall 11th to 14th October. Please get in contact with Sarah to make your late booking. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk or 01224 872702.

Well we got a good rise in levels last Monday with the Cairnton gauge reading 1/2" at 7am and by end of play was running at 5' and very coloured which is really what we were needing for the catches to improve. The water temperatures gradually fell away also. Although we did land 2 salmon, 2 grilse and 2 sea trout for the week I was surprised we did not do slightly better as the conditions were pretty good for the rest of the week and there were enough fish showing to keep everyone interested. The highlight of the week was Steven Goodchild landing an 11lb er in the Grey Mare on a size 8 Tosh variant. Steven has landed plenty of Dee Salmon over the years but this was his first from Cairnton. Other fish and sea trout were landed on Francis patterns and Sunrays.
Weather for the week ahead looks fairly dry most days with heavy rain on Tuesday and winds from a south west direction. We have some Middle Blackhall rods available 8th to 14th October and 4 rods available on 12th October on Cairnton so please contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk

Well the week ahead looked quite promising last Monday morning with another small rise of over a foot and a much colder morning along with the water temperature dropping down to 51f, it's how you would like an autumn week to start but again it didn't last too long before it was like June again. By Wednesday the river was back down to 3" on the Cairnton gauge making fishing conditions fairly difficult however we did end the week with a Grilse of 5lb and 4 coloured Sea Trout between 2lb and 3lb. There are the usual residents showing in most of the pools but a good change in conditions is much needed to shift some fish around either with some frosts or a good flood. There looks to be a band of rain coming from the west late on Sunday and into Monday so hopefully it gives us a bit of water down the river.
We have very little availability now until the end of the 2021 season but we can offer a few rods on Middle Blackhall next week and the end of the next week and we have the last Cairnton rods of 2021 available - 2 rods on 7th Oct and 4 rods on 12th October. Please contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk or 01224 872702. (for specific dates please look at our website - www.cairnton.co.uk)

Another hard week with continuing low water and unusually hot days which wasn't helping our cause and although we had the rise from the previous weekend giving us a bit of water at the start of the week it unfortunately didn't really do much to switch the fish on and there were a few fish in all the pools. A couple of days of solid rain and a good flood or some colder night temperatures would help. Although the week did prove pretty difficult with conditions the rods did not let that faze them and fished it hard with a couple of fish being lost. Chris Johnston saved the week with a coloured grilse of about 4lb from the Lower Ferroch on a small Monkey fly on Saturday.
This coming week looks fairly dry and settled with a chance of a bit of rain midweek from the west.
Sarah is now preparing the diary for 2022 and offers will be sent out shortly. If you usually fish with us and know you need alternative dates please let Sarah know as soon as possible. Also if you haven't fished with us before or have only had the odd day here or there but are interested in fishing Cairnton or Middle Blackhall please email Sarah with your requests as soon as possible. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk

The past week was really dour, the fish showed very little interest in anything we threw at them but this was probably more to do with the low water than anything else as there were a few fish in all the pools which had obviously seen it all before. We had some very hot days that didn't help but most of the mornings were ok for a few hours. The water temperatures were between 56f and 60f throughout the week. We had one 5lb coloured grilse in Glister on Monday on a Sunray and another couple were lost on Wednesday. Friday night and into Saturday a fair bit of rain had fallen so Saturdays river looked quite coloured and rose slowly throughout the day, peaking at 11 inches with us by the end of play so hopefully that helps us for the start of next week. The forecast is to be mainly dry with cloud and sunny spells and some rain on Wednesday.
We have very little availability on Cairnton between now and the end of the season however we do have a few more dates available on Middle Blackhall. Email Sarah with your booking requests and she will be able to advise on what she can offer you. Also 2022 season is going to be upon us sooner that you think so please also email Sarah with your requests if you are new to the beat or are considering a different time of year if you have been with us before. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk

Quite a difficult week with low water and the fish being very dour. On some days the weather was very hot with a bright blue sky but I think we did reasonably well considering with 5 fish and 1 sea trout landed. Andy Ashcroft had a grilse of 3.5lb from Floating Bank on Monday on a Cascade followed by a 3lb grilse in the Grey Mare on Thursday on a Sunray. Alan Catney had a 2.5lb sea trout from the Spout the same day in blazing sunshine and it was looking like that was the way the week would end up however Brandon Bryant had a brace of 8lb a piece late on Saturday afternoon, one from the Upper Ferroch and the other in the Spout, both were on a deeply fished on Red Francis. There was also a 15lber landed later on, again on a Red Francis in Potters.
This coming week looks as though there's a light band of rain coming from the west tonight then fairly dry for a few days until Thursday when there is the potential of some rain in the latter stages of the week.
Anyone wishing to book their last days of fishing for the 2021 season should get in contact with Sarah as soon as possible. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk. A few rods available on Cairnton at £91.20 per day inc vat and a few more dates to offer on Middle Blackhall at £68.40 per day inc vat. All availability listed on our website www.cairnton.co.uk. Also enquiries for 2022 are already starting to come in so if you are new to the beat and are thinking of fishing with us next season please get in contact with Sarah as soon as possible so that she can try and accommodate you.

It was a promising looking week ahead last Monday with good water heights between 1' 7" down to 6" by Saturday, not bad water temperatures, between 56f to 59f, a bit bright on occasions but not too bad and there were a few fish about but they were not very keen. The first 4 days of the week were very quiet for us on the catches front with not even a half hearted offer although we were seeing fish showing in all the pools. It was Friday before anything was landed with Steve Kettlewells' party accounting for 4 grilse in the morning, 2 were on small conehead Red Francis patterns and the other 2 were on a size 12 Cascade and size 12 Ghillie fly. On Saturday Andy Ashcroft landed an 8lber on a Red Francis in Cairnton pool on Middle Blackhall, so at least the week finished up not too badly.
The coming week looks to be a bit cooler with winds coming from a Northerly direction and cloudy with sunny spells.
We have a couple of rods available on Cairnton on a number of days through September and also some rods on Middle Blackhall. You can check all our availability on our website and then get in contact with Sarah to book.
