It is strange how the fishing can change from consistently good catches to very few but we have seen it before and no doubt will see it again. We had fairly good water levels and temperature conditions this past week plus there were fish about but the fish were certainly switched off for some reason, we had a few fish lost over the week. However we did get off to a good start on Monday morning when Ray Doonan (The Orchy Oracle) managed to land a lovely fresh 4lb grilse in Upper Ferroch, then it was a long wait until Saturday evening when Hamish Allen landed a sea trout of roughly 3lb.

Water heights were 3" on Monday, with a wee rise mid week to 10" and finishing at 5" on Saturday. Water temperatures were 58f/64f.

There is some rain forecast upriver tomorrow so hopefully that will freshen things up a bit for the coming week.

    Cheers Brian

A very different week weather wise compared to what we experienced for most of July. We had a lot more sunshine, heat and humidity resulting in a gradually dropping river and water temperatures creeping up which isn't the best conditions however we did manage 10 grilse and a few lost. Great effort from the Jacobs party, landing 8 for their week and 2 more to other day rods. All fish landed were in really fantastic condition. Flies that were doing the trick were small Phatagorva's, black Snaelda's & small black Pigs. Water heights were 7" on Monday & 3" on Saturday with water temperatures 60f/61f.

Book your rods now for the rest of the season, only 10 weeks fishing time left.

Another really good week for us with 15 landed up to 16lb, a few being lost and the usual pecks and pulls which didn't hang on. Again this week fish were fairly well spread throughout the beat and all in really good condition and mostly all fresh with a couple being in for no more than a week. Worthy mentions are Tom Turnbull with 3 fish to 16lb on Tuesday. Cairnton veterans(distinguished) Mike Richardson 4 to 14lb and James Madden 4 to 14lb for their week plus William Thompson landing his very first, a 5lb grilse from Invercannie.  Flies that were doing the trick were Ghillie's, Flamethrowers, Monkeys and small Phatagorva bottle tubes.

Water heights were 1' 9" on Monday and finishing at 9" on Saturday.  Water temperatures were 56f/60f.

Another fantastic week with 22 Salmon/grilse and 3 sea trout landed with the usual ones lost and plenty of offers. Arthur Wright's party on Middle Blackhall had 1 salmon, 6 grilse and a sea trout for their week with a couple of 1st fish for Tom England and Jack Binner. On Cairnton there were 5 salmon, 10 grilse and 2 sea trout with the largest at 14lb for Charlie Robertson on Saturday. Usual patterns were Ally's shrimp, Cascade variants and Gledswood blue's. River heights were 9" on Monday, Tuesday was 3" 2" and running absolutely filthy but dropping and clearing as the week went on and finishing at 1' 1" on Saturday and still with a slight tinge of peat. Water temperatures were 56f/60f all week.

    A good week.

A good week with 3 salmon, 10 grilse and 3 sea trout landed plus plenty of offers and fish lost with pretty much all the pools producing a bit of sport, although it was a surprisingly quiet start to the week with 2 on Monday, blank Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. The heavy rain on Wednesday gave us an extra couple of feet by Thursday and we did have our chances but had to settle for a sea trout. Friday we landed 7, plus a sea trout and Saturday 3, plus a sea trout. Lucky anglers were Mark Blair, Andy Ashcroft & John Webb but the weeks accolade must go to Tom Webster landing his 1st and 2nd Scottish/Dee salmon. Water temperatures were 53f to 57f and heights were 8" to 2' 8". Flies that were doing the trick were Cascades, Ally's, & Pumphouse Shrimp..

Not bad conditions over this past week with mostly overcast sky's, some sunshine here & there and some showers, with a bit more persistent rain on Friday night into Saturday resulting in a small slow rise all day.

Water temperatures were 55f to 58f and the water heights were between 3" to 9". The hut log fire has been on daily so that will give an indication to the air temperatures being low for this time of year.

We had one salmon, one grilse and three sea trout for the week with a number of grilse lost.  Anglers that had success were Andy Ashcroft, George Lyon and Mike Mawhinney with the Cascades and small Crathie flies working.

    Cheers Brian

The last week of June already and Monday started off nice and cool early on but a blistering, very hot day was to follow however the rest of the week was more favourable for fishing with a mix of sunshine, cloud and an odd heavy shower. Water heights were between 5 and 8 inches and water temperatures were between 56/66 Fahrenheit, the warmer temperature was on Tuesday after the previous days heat.

We had our best week of the season so far with 6 fish landed to 15lb and 5 sea trout plus a few other losses here and there. A few of the lucky anglers were Robert Bramman, Andy Ashcroft, Alan Catney and Graheme Reid with the Ally's Shrimp, Cascades, Sunrays and small Crathie patterns doing the trick.

    Cheers Brian
