Last week started off warm and bright for a couple of days then by Wednesday we saw a change, a bit of the wet stuff and a rise in water levels however the last two days of the week were mostly bright and warm with a breeze from an Easterly direction all week. We saw the return of Cairnton/Dee regulars the Goodchilds who know the beat intimately and were very unlucky to have a week of fish just not hanging on very long but at least we had a few chances. The week was saved by George Goodchild with our first Sea Trout of the season, a chunky 3lb er from the Rockhead 

Also good to see the swifts have returned this week which are the last of the summer visitors.

Not the greatest of fishing conditions last week with daily highs of up to 18c plus and accompanied with bright sunshine, although the first few hours in the mornings and the evenings were the most likely it wasn't to be this week. We did see a few fish and we had a few offers and managed to lose two which were almost to the net but we didn't get the photo, it happens. 

Water heights were fairly good on Monday, sitting at 1' and by Saturday was sitting at 8" & water temperatures between 57f/60f. The good news is it is meant to be a bit cooler this coming week .

The week started off with a water height of over 3' and carrying a bit of colour from the Sunday downpours, as the week went on the river fell away gradually and cleared each day with Saturdays height sitting at 1' 3". Water temperatures were low to mid 50 Fahrenheit all week. On the fishing side of things Holger Kurth from Sweden landed our only fish of the week on Thursday in the Cottage pool on a Phatagorva & was 8lb. Holger also had a few offers and lost a couple over the course of the week. We have seen an odd one or two showing this past few days but the mini heatwave we are experiencing is making the fishing challenging.

A very challenging and changeable week with all conditions sent to test us, heavy rain, thick mist and a howling wind but a couple of lovely spring days thrown in. Water heights started off at 1' 3" & rose to 2' by Tuesday then gradually fell away as the week went on. Water temperatures were in the high 40s to low 50s Fahrenheit.  On the fishing side of things it was a good start to Robert Bramman's season when he landed a 10lb liced fish on a Black & Chatreuse Monkey in the Malt Steep on Tuesday.  There seemed to be a fish or two about at the end of the week but they weren't hanging around too long and were definitely travelling.  

We also heard our first cuckoo of the year yesterday, a lovely tune but not so great for other nesting birds.

This past week the conditions were slightly better than it has been of late with a bit more warmth in the air and a steady falling water and more importantly a swing in the wind direction from the Easterly's that seemed to last forever to the west/south west. A few fish were seen this week but most looked as though they were running, we did have a few offers but nothing landed until Friday when Peter Sjöborg, who was fishing in Pontus Gunlycke's party on Middle Blackhall, landed a lovely 8lb er from the Douglas Pool.

The previous week it looked as though spring may be on the way but this week was like a return to March rather than mid April. The heavy showers and strong winds from the north and west weren't a problem, it was the very low air temperatures which made it a bit more challenging.  Water heights were running from 1' 11" to just over 3' and water temperatures 41f/44f.  The first half of the week was busier with 2 fish landed and a few offers aswell with the 2nd half a bit quieter.

Stefan Johansson, part of Pontus Gunlycke's fishing party from Sweden managed to land a lovely 8lb er in the Malt Steep on Tuesday on a Black & Orange tube and on Wednesday,  Colin Craik managed his first of the season, a lovely liced 9lb er in the Malt Steep on a Garry Dog variant.  Colins success came mending the line down stream to speed it up. Well done Colin.

This week we had every conceivable form of fishing conditions apart from snow. The first three days were pretty wet with an easterly wind then on Thursday/Friday we got a bit of a shock to the system with warm sunshine and a westerly breeze,  Saturday was extremely difficult with almost gale force westerly's and a mix of sun & heavy downpours. Water temperatures were in the low 40's Fahrenheit at the start of the week and were in the high 40's by the weekend. Levels were up and down quite a bit but Mark Elder landed our only fish of the week on Tuesday on a rapidly rising water in the Malt Steep,  a liced 9lb er on a Black & Yellow tube. It was Marks first Scottish Dee fish as he is a very successful Welsh Dee angler. We did have a couple of fish on for a short time also. Tuesday saw our first Sandpipers of the year returning and a small flock of Sand Martins. Spring is on the way.
