Well the last 5 days of the 2021 season were reasonably good with 7 Salmon to16lb and 1 Grilse of 5lb caught. Six of them were caught on JJ's and one was on a Sunray. Regular Cairnton angler Mark Blair had three with the largest from Rockhead with Marks son Lewis landing a couple to 12lb. Steve Kettlewell also did well with three to 12lb, the largest being one of the nicest I've seen this backend, which came from Glister.
Overall our season wasn't too bad with the spring to the end of May producing 55 fish. The seasons largest fish for us was 19lb for Derek Wright (in May).
For the summer months, June to end of August, we had 98 fish. June was down on the five year average but July was back to the monthly average and August slightly up.
For the autumn we had 26 fish. September was pretty disappointing with only 9 caught, this was mainly due to the low water and heatwave we were all experiencing.
Sea Trout numbers were well down in the months we would expect them (May/June) although we did get a few stale ones into the Autumn.
To sum the 2021 season up I would say we had a fairly good one considering the continued Covid restrictions and the prolonged lack of water and high temperatures. We would like to thank all the anglers who fished with us in 2021 and we look forward to seeing everyone again, old and new in 2022.
Sarah is currently sending out offers for 2022, however if you know you need to change dates or you are new to the beat and would like to book, please contact Sarah as soon as possible so that she can see what we can offer you. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.
